Support for ITE providers

We are committed to helping you provide your trainees with all the support needed to deliver excellent teaching of STEM subjects, both during training and throughout their career as a teacher. 

The impactful and high-quality support we can offer will both enhance and complement your own programme in preparing trainees for the classroom. Trainees can then continue to benefit from our support throughout their teaching career, offering them meaningful development and progression.

We want to make this as easy and flexible as possible, and so we have a number of ways we can support you.
 

An overview of our offer

  • Impactful

    • Our support has a proven impact on the subject and pedagogical knowledge, enthusiasm and confidence of teachers.
       

  • Subject-specific

    • Subject-specific support during training, linked to the ITE Core Content Framework, providing trainees with the confidence and skills to teach their subject.

  • Holistic

    • Holistic support, including CPD, quality-assured resources and support in raising the aspirations and engagement of young people in STEM.

  • Flexible

    • A mixture of residential, face-to-face, online and remotely-delivered support, allowing trainees to benefit when and where it suits them.

Bursaries

We are delighted to be able to offer bursaries to state-funded schools and colleges across the UK to support continuing professional development. Bursaries are available for trainee teachers registered with a bursary eligible school. If trainees are completing their initial teacher education through a Higher Education Institution, they may still qualify for a bursary if the course is running during a placement in an eligible school.

Helping your trainees raise the aspirations and engagement of young people in STEM

STEM Ambassadors

STEM Ambassadors are volunteers from a wide range of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related jobs and backgrounds across the UK.

You can request a STEM Ambassador to come into school or visit the ITE provider, either face-to-face or remotely. STEM Ambassadors can support trainee teachers in a number of ways, including:

  • enriching trainees’ subject knowledge development with real-life STEM contexts
  • supporting trainees’ in how they plan and deliver a broad and balanced curriculum
  • improving trainees’ own understanding of STEM careers and employability skills

STEM Clubs

STEM Clubs are out-of-timetable sessions that provide young people with the chance to explore aspects of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics). Their purpose is to enrich, rather than deliver, the curriculum.

Trainees being involved in leading a STEM Club can enhance their confidence in teaching STEM subjects. It also allows them to work with a smaller group of students in a more informal setting.
 

Gain support from STEM Community

STEM Community is a place to share ideas and find support within the teaching of STEM subjects. Prompting thought about aspects of teaching practice, discussion and an opportunity to engage with both peers across the country and our own subject experts, it provides a helpful and supportive area for trainee teachers in particular. It's a great place to ask questions and boost your STEM subject knowledge. 
 
It’s free to join. It uses the same login details as your STEM Learning website account if you already have one. If not, it’s quick and easy to register.

Bespoke support

We are able to offer any of our CPD courses on a bespoke basis. We can run bespoke instances of our existing CPD courses, or work with you to develop, refine and tailor the content and approach to meet your specific needs. Alternatively, we can develop a bespoke CPD event just for you. You can also use the facilities at our National STEM Learning Centre and benefit from our wide range of quality-assured facilitators.
